How Obama Won the West ...
...is a documentary about the final two weeks of the historic 2008 presidential election in three critical western swing states: Nevada, Colorado and New Mexico.
We traveled through these states following the Obama and McCain campaigns, interviewing supporters and campaign volunteers, and meeting a host of unique characters who talk about the election and change in the West.
We've started post-production and periodically I'll put up clips from the film on this blog. Check back to follow the progress of the documentary and see a unique look at the last days of the campaign.

I'm on the road for our new political documentary examining the last two weeks of the 2008 election in swing states of the West. Last week was Nevada, I'm in Colorado now, and will head to New Mexico shortly.
So far, I've interviewed interesting people, seen some beautiful vistas and enjoyed spectacular Fall weather in the West.

This short video of politicians in the Bay Area talking about the SF bay oil spill and the immediate aftermath is screening at the San Francisco Ocean Film Festival in February.
We're interested in doing a more in-depth look at the spill and a broader examination of some of the issues it raises, going back to the Valdez oil spill. If you're interested in learning more, please contact us at info (at) veriscope (dot) com.

I've been selected to attend the Scripps Howard Institute on the Environment in Florida. The idea is to bring a group of journalists to Florida and show, through speakers and field trips, the importance and complexity of Florida's ecosystem. I've been interested in making a documentary about the political/environmental situation in Florida for a while, so this is a true busman's holiday for me and hopefully the first step in the pre-production phase of my next project.

NAB was massive, both in the number of people attending and the sheer volume of products and technology on display. The headline for video producers was all about HD - it was everywhere, and it seems like there never was such a thing as SD or film. The products are flooding the market, but workflow issues are still very tricky.
I'm in the market for a HD camera and I was leaning toward the Panasonic AG-HVX200, but for documentary work in the field, I don't think it's the right camera. Thankfully, there are lots of good alternatives out there.

I was selected for a fellowship sponsored by the American Film Institute (AFI) and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) to participate in the AFI's Digital Content Lab. I've been put on a team that is creating an interactive digital project that will be utilized on a variety of different platforms, such as the Internet, mobile phones and IPTV. I'll post more about the project in the future.
